New Headteacher Announced

By 26 June 2024No Comments

Hello Thornhill School community.

Let me introduce myself, my name is Georgina Mawson and I have the honour and privilege of becoming your new Head Teacher from September.

I am excited to get to know the staff, pupils, parents and wider school community and build relationships with you all.

I am passionate about all pupils, regardless of their starting points, and have many years of experience in SEN education, providing support to pupils and families, to enable all pupils to achieve to their absolute best and positively contribute to society.

Over the next 4 weeks I look forward to meeting staff, pupils, governors and parents, as I make a number of visits to the school before the end of the term. I especially want to invite you to join me on Thursday 11th July from 3pm at Thornhill School for a ‘Meet the Head Teacher’ drop-in session for a tea or coffee and a chat.

Finally, a little bit about me – I’m Cumbrian born and have remained in the county throughout my life. I live on the West Coast of the county with my husband and two young children who are 9 & 5 years old. I’m a country girl and come from a background of farmers, and as a family of four we continue to farm around our careers. My teaching career began in 2010 and I have most recently been an Acting Head Teacher in a local small school. Now, I am very much looking forward to becoming your school’s Head Teacher and leading it on its exciting journey.

I look forward to meeting you all soon.
